The Osteomyelitis Center of Central Florida provides a calming environment for the patient. It is within this environment that the patient will experience a team approach to the treatment of their bone infection. This team will address the factors that negatively impact healing and will provide the support needed during the healing process to allow the patient to heal and return to family, hobbies, and work.
Treatment of osteomyelitis in the 21st century still eludes an FDA approved medicine or surgical procedure. At The Osteomyelitis Center of Central Florida we welcome your referral. However, with the resources of a comprehensive medical team approach including: proper antibiotic management, advanced wound care, advanced and state of the art surgical treatment, vascular evaluation and intervention, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, and prosthetic management with rehabilitation the patient’s complete recovery will be our goal.

A message from the medical director with an overview of the Center and Osteomyelitis information
Dr. Karr is the medical director of the center. Every patient I have treated for a bone infection share two common threads. The first common thread is that they have a bone infection and they want a "cure". The second most common thread is that this patient has seen one or more "specialist", received appropriate care for some but not all of the problems surrounding why they have a bone infection but have not received comprehensive, coordinated care. It is this comprehensive, coordinated care from a mutli-physicians and medical personal center rather than from an individual physician that is paramount to the successfully treatment of your bone infection. The Osteomyelitis Center of Central Florida cares about you and welcomes you as a patient. The Osteomyelitis Center of Central Florida physicians and medical faculty are here to provide the comprehensive, coordinated care you need to heal and to return to what you want to do.
For almost twenty years I have been specialized my practice in wound care, limb preservation, reconstructive surgery, and limb restoration. The treatment of osteomyelitis was a natural evolution in this successful treatment of limb threatening pathology. My practice, the wound care center, and the Osteomyelitis Center Of Central Florida serves patients from the United States, Caribbean, as well as Central and South America.
Except for hyperbaric oxygen therapy for recalcitrant osteomyelitis there is no FDA approved drug or system for the treatment of ostemyelitis in the United States. This leaves the treatment of osteomyelitis very fragmented, inconsistent, and varying between physicians and clinics.
The prevalence of osteomyelitis in the United States in diabetic foot ulcers is 10-20%. The average cost of a hospital admission for osteomyelitis is $35,000.00.
As in wound care, I felt these patients with osteomyelitis had a very serious limb threatening situation and that the patient would benefit from a team approach to their successful treatment. The Osteomyelitis Center Of Central Florida provides a advanced, state of the art resources and a mutli-speciality approach to the successful management of osteomyelitis.
The advanced, state of the art resources encompasses not only proper and complete evaluation of the osteomyelitis but also all of the factors effecting your healing. All possible treatment options will be explored including medical, surgical, or a combination of both.
The faculity of The Osteomyelitis Center Of Central Florida meet regularly to review the medical literature to provide state of the art care and the best care possible to our patients. The faculty and myself continue to follow the currently evolving osteomyelitis treatment not only within the United States but globally. This is accomplish not only by regular faculty meetings but by weekly global medical literature review, constant review and publication of our centers results, and continued global interaction with fellow physicians and surgeons treating osteomyelitis. This "global interaction" is accomplished by me personally preforming surgery in five countries in three different continents as well as presenting at symposium's domestically and internationally on wound care, limb preservation, and osteomyelitis.
